Dr. Mayans is a Wichita native. After graduating from Bishop Carroll, Dr. Mayans attended the University of Kansas where he obtained bachelor’s degrees in both biology and chemistry before attending the University of Kansas for medical school with two years in Kansas City and the final two years in Wichita. Early in his fourth year of medical school, he worked with Dr. Paul Genilo at Neurology Consultants of Kansas and fell in love with Neurology.
Dr. Mayans attended Wake Forest University for his neurology residency. He was named Neurology Resident Teacher of the Year in 2010 and Chief Resident in 2012. He completed a fellowship in Neuromuscular Medicine and Clinical Neurophysiology at Wake Forest before deciding to return home, and gladly took the opportunity to join Neurology Consultants of Kansas.
He is actively involved in several national neurological societies, board certified in Neurology and Clinical Neurophysiology, and maintains certification in Neurosonology.
While Dr. Mayans’ clinical focus is in neuromuscular disorders, electromyography, nerve conduction studies and neuromuscular ultrasound, he sees a variety of neurological conditions from Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Epilepsy, to headaches. Dr. Mayans has a clinical faculty appointment with the University of Kansas and is actively involved in resident and medical student education.
Outside the practice:
Dr. Mayans spends his free time with his family, travelling, working out and brewing beer.
